So, what is Licensing?
Licensing is a lot like franchising, but without the enormous amount of capital required, and with plenty of room for creativity and growth on your own. When you license a brand or a business, you share all the resources and goodwill attached to the business with your Licensor, who is the brand owner, and other licensees. The key ingredient for success lies in the intimate and cooperative relationship in between the Licensor and Licensees. Everyone who believes in Java Mama will come together to grow and succeed.
What is included in a Licensing package?
Java Mama provides licensees with a great concept: a child-friendly, upscale café that is welcoming to both adults and children!
- You will have access to our branding, start-up and operations manuals, unique recipes, operational systems, vital vendor relations, training materials, and exclusive regional rights.
- Why reinvent the wheel? It took nearly five years for the first Java Mama Café to open. With this License, you will get the tools you need to open your own Java Mama Café in a fraction of the time it would otherwise take.

1. How much does it cost to open a Java Mama?
It all depends on your geographic location and how much construction and build-out the space needs. Talk to the small business association office in your area or your local Chamber of Commerce.
2. How much space do I need?
You need enough space to fit a playarea, classroom/meeting space, cafe seating and coffee and food prep area. We recommend 2,000 square feet or more.
3. How much does a license cost?
It depends on how large of a geographic location you are looking at but costs range from $5,000 to $15,000 for an initial licensing fee.
4. Why should I license? I can figure it all out on my own.
Yes, you can figure it out but it will take a long time and a lot of money. We spent almost five years opening Java Mama and learned a lot along the way that we can share with you. We will tell you which equipment you should buy used or new, how to find suppliers, where to find insurance, how to find commercial real estate, how to best negotiate your lease, etc.
5. What are the next steps?
To be a member of the Java Mama family, you must have strong entrepreneurial spirit and tenacity.
