Little Hand's Art
The years before a child reaches kindergarten are among
the most critical in his or her life to influence learning.
The early exposure to art promotes brain activity and
helps children better understand other subjects, from
math to language. For example, holding a pencil, crayon
or paintbrush can help with fine-tuning motor skills and
improves their coordination and strength. This art class introduces a wide variety of materials and
techniques, such as watercolor, pastel, crayon, color
pencil, charcoal, markers, tempera, collage, clay,
mobiles, each session exploring a different theme. Basic
artistic elements such as line, shape, color, texture,
form, space and sequence, so essential for cognitive
development, are practiced at the appropriate level.
Classes emphasize and emulate the styles of individual
artists and artistic movements throughout history,
encouraging guided individual exploration.
Parents may choose to stay in the classroom and have
the opportunity to see, draw and paint with their child.
For ages two and up.

Art Smart Co-Op
Open-ended, or ‘processed-oriented’ art projects promote creative thinking and problem-solving skills. When the focus is not on the end result, or ‘product’, children have the opportunity to make original and abstract creations. The process is both exploratory (using our senses to explore color, texture, shape, etc.) and experimental (improving techniques through trial and error). While participating as creative ‘assistants’. parents will learn how to promote creativity through right-brain activities for their little ones. Taught by Susan ‘Starshine’ Sharkey.
